Step by Step: Joining a PC to Azure AD

Joining a PC to Azure AD (Azure Active Directory) is a crucial step in integrating your Windows 10 or later device with your organization’s cloud-based identity and access management system. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to join a PC to Azure AD:

Prerequisites:

  • Ensure you have an active Azure AD subscription and the necessary permissions to add devices to Azure AD.
  • Make sure the PC is running Windows 10 or a later version.
  • Ensure that you have an internet connection.

Step 1: Sign In to Windows

  1. Start your PC and reach the Windows login screen.
  2. If you’re already signed in with a local account (not a Microsoft account), sign out or restart the computer.

Step 2: Begin Azure AD Join Process

  1. On the Windows login screen, click on “Other user.”
  2. You will see a “Join Azure AD” link at the bottom of the login screen. Click on it.

Step 3: Azure AD Sign-In

  1. In the “Azure AD Sign-In” window, enter the username and password for an Azure AD account with permissions to join devices.
  2. Click the “Sign in” button.

Step 4: Confirm Azure AD Join

  1. After successful sign-in, Windows will verify your credentials and ask for confirmation to join the PC to Azure AD.
  2. Click the “Join” button to proceed.

Step 5: Additional Information

  1. Depending on your organization’s setup, you may be prompted to provide additional information or confirm your identity. Follow the on-screen prompts and provide the required information.

Step 6: Device Naming and Finish

  1. You may have the option to name your device. Give it a meaningful name that helps you identify it within your organization.
  2. Click the “Next” or “Finish” button to complete the process.

Step 7: Azure AD Join Confirmation

  1. Once the process is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation that your PC is now joined to Azure AD.

Step 8: Sign In and Verify

  1. Sign in to your Windows account using your Azure AD credentials. You may need to restart your PC for the changes to take full effect.

Step 9: Verify Azure AD Join

  1. To verify that your PC is successfully joined to Azure AD, you can go to “Settings” > “Accounts” > “Access work or school.” You should see your Azure AD account listed there.

Your PC is now successfully joined to Azure AD, which means it’s integrated with your organization’s Azure AD directory. This allows you to manage and control user access and policies centrally from the Azure AD portal. Users can sign in with their Azure AD credentials to access company resources and applications while benefiting from Azure AD’s security and identity management features.
