The Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) certification for SharePoint Developer was a certification that validated an IT professional’s skills and knowledge in developing custom solutions on the SharePoint platform.
SharePoint is a web-based collaboration and document management platform that allows users to share and collaborate on content, such as documents, lists, and libraries, within an organization. MCPD SharePoint Developer certified professionals were responsible for developing custom solutions on the SharePoint platform, including:
- Designing SharePoint solutions: They designed SharePoint solutions to meet specific business requirements, including developing custom workflows, forms, and web parts.
- Developing SharePoint solutions: They developed SharePoint solutions using Microsoft Visual Studio and other development tools, including .NET Framework, C#, and SharePoint APIs.
- Deploying and testing SharePoint solutions: They deployed and tested SharePoint solutions in a development or test environment to ensure they met the required specifications.
- Maintaining and troubleshooting SharePoint solutions: They maintained and troubleshooted SharePoint solutions, including monitoring server performance, debugging issues, and performing routine maintenance tasks.
MCPD SharePoint Developer certification was available for SharePoint 2010, which has since been replaced by SharePoint 2013, 2016, and 2019. However, it’s worth noting that the MCPD certification has been retired and is no longer available to earn. Microsoft now offers the Microsoft Certified: SharePoint Developer Associate certification for developers who want to demonstrate their expertise in developing solutions on the SharePoint platform.
