What are Azure AD Licenses ?

Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) offers several licensing options to meet the needs of different organizations. Here are some examples of Azure AD licenses and their features:

  1. Azure AD Free: This is the default license for Azure AD, and it’s free of charge. It provides basic features such as user and group management, password management, and single sign-on (SSO) for cloud applications.
  2. Azure AD Basic: This license offers additional features such as group-based access management, self-service password reset, and SSO for on-premises applications using the Azure AD Application Proxy.
  3. Azure AD Premium P1: This license includes all the features of Azure AD Basic, as well as additional features such as Conditional Access policies, Azure AD Identity Protection, and Microsoft Cloud App Security.
  4. Azure AD Premium P2: This license includes all the features of Azure AD Premium P1, as well as additional features such as Azure AD Privileged Identity Management, Azure AD Identity Governance, and Azure AD My Sign-Ins.

Examples of some features that are available with Azure AD licenses are:

  • Single sign-on (SSO): This feature allows users to sign in once to access multiple applications, reducing the need for multiple usernames and passwords.
  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA): This feature provides an additional layer of security to user sign-ins by requiring users to provide more than one form of authentication, such as a password and a verification code sent to their phone.
  • Conditional Access policies: This feature allows administrators to define access controls based on factors such as location, device, and user group, helping to ensure that only authorized users have access to resources.
  • Azure AD Identity Protection: This feature uses machine learning to detect potential security threats and provides automated responses to protect against them.
  • Azure AD Privileged Identity Management: This feature provides just-in-time access to privileged accounts, reducing the risk of misuse or abuse of these accounts.

These are just a few examples of the many features available with Azure AD licenses. Organizations can choose the license that best meets their needs based on their security and access management requirements.
